Help us establish The Endowed Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts

Following Mr. Gunn’s tradition of promoting visual and performing arts in The Gunnery curriculum, Susie Graham elevated the Arts at The Gunnery to a new level during her tenure.  Her commitment to the Arts is highlighted by the building of the Emerson Performing Arts Center and the Woodward Arts Studios.  The program is ever growing with 70% of the student body enrolled in an art or music class.  Each week, 65 students take private music or voice lessons for credit compared to eight students just ten years ago.

We are asking Gunnery and Wykeham Rise artists and collectors to donate artwork and collectibles to help take The Gunnery Arts to the next level.  Our goal is to raise a minimum of $250,000 to permanently anchor the program and set the stage for continuing a vibrant future with The Endowed Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts.  You can help in two ways:

Call to Artists for Silent Auction:

To showcase the quality of artists who have graduated from The Gunnery and Wykeham Rise, we are seeking donations of original artwork for a juried silent auction to be held during Alumni Weekend on June 9, 2012.  All proceeds raised will be contributed to the The Endowed Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts.

Original Media Sought: paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, digital art and jewelry

Selection Process:    A distinguished jury comprised of artists Norm Hines ’57, Sam Posey ’62 and Davina Perl Beacham ’86, Bruce Museum Executive Director, Peter C. Sutton ’68, Addison/Ripley Fine Art Director, Sylvia Addison Ripley WR ’74, and Gunnery faculty member and artist, Andrew Richards, will review artwork submissions and select artwork to be included in the Alumni Weekend Silent Arts Auction.  Entry requirements/details.

Call to Collectors for Sotheby's Auction

The Gunnery is seeking collectors of premier artwork and other collectibles willing to sell a work at a Sotheby’s auction.  We are working with an esteemed Sotheby’s contact who will facilitate auctions on behalf of Gunnery and Wykeham Rise collectors.  Proceeds from these sales would be donated by the collector to The Gunnery’s Endowed Fund for the Visual and Performing Arts.  Artwork, wines, antiques and jewelry are all being sought.  For more details, interested collectors may contact Alexandra Ince  incea@gunnery.org; (860) 868-7334 x253; 99 Green Hill Road, Washington, CT 06793.  You can view the Sotheby’s auction guidelines here.
