The boys of Emerson dormitory emerged as the winners of the 2010-2011 Dorm Challenge.
The final challenge, a slip-n-slide competition, was like all the others in that it had nothing to do with physical or academic strength. Students won points for most creative slide, best team slide, and longest slide, among others. The challenges are gender neutral, don’t favor one type of individual, and allow the kids to work together as a team. They also open opportunities for students to interact with other kids in their dorm as well as people they wouldn’t normally socialize with.
Other dorm challenges for the 2010-2011 year included a dorm flag design contest, a “rap-off,” a haunted dorm competition, a trivia contest, a dodge ball tournament, and numerous fundraisers for various causes.
Here is a breakdown of each dorm and their total points. Emerson (170 points) Bourne (140), Brinsmade (100), Butler (90), Teddy House (85), Gibson (80), Van Sinderen (60), Gunn (45), and Memorial and Browne (tie at 35).
