On Saturday May 22nd, eighty runners on The Gunnery campus participated in the Second Annual Memorial Run for ALS. The event raised awareness about the progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease that attacks neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Gunnery students and faculty were joined for the race and barbeque by runners and volunteers from the Rumsey Hall School and the greater Washington community. Over $1,000 was raised by the runners and by the 15 local business sponsors including the Crossroads Café, JD Tuckers, GW Tavern, Huntington and Hope, The Hickory Stick Bookstore, Washington Pizza House, Sportsmen's of Litchfield, Washington Supply Company, The Pantry, Marty's, Green Hill, Klemm Real Estate, Washington Sports, J McLaughlin, and The Stationer. Junior Sean Turner (Wyomissing, Pennsylvania) and sophomore Charlotte Reilly (Southport, Connecticut) were the top student finishers in the approximate 3-mile race. Siblings Michael Croft (Washington, CT) and Allison Croft (Ellington, CT) finished first in the adult divisions.
