Greg Holt ’05 electrified the airways when he was responsible for the winning goal in the ECAC quarterfinal game between Union College and the Quinnipiac Bobcats. The item that put the game, which ended with a score of 3-2 in favor of the Bobcats, on the blogs and sent the news viral was that the game went to five overtimes and was the longest game in D-1 college hockey at 150:22 minutes. Head coach Chris Baudo commented: “Greg was the first recruit for our coaching staff, and his leadership helped put the program where it is today. Greg's passion for the game allowed him to quiet the naysayers who thought he was too small to play at Division I NCAA hockey. His success for 4 years at Quinnipiac is a testament to his character and determination, and Greg remains someone that our school and hockey program proudly tout as one of our finest alumni.”
Brown University sophomore Jeff Buvinow ’08 got a second period goal and an assist in the first game of the best of three ECAC quarterfinal series against 6th ranked Yale in March. Brown upset the Bulldogs 3-2. Jeff was averaging a goal a game in early January when he got the lone goal in the Bears’ loss to St. Cloud State. He had two assists in the game against the fifth-ranked and top scoring Yale Bulldogs. Jeff had a goal and two assists in the tie game against Dartmouth, the goal being his sixth of the season. Jeff continued his winning ways playing in all 37 Bears’ games this season scoring seven goals and 18 assists. The Bears took 3rd place in the ECAC Championship with a 13-20-4 record.
Senior forward Desiree Biron ’06 was the team leader for the St. Michael’s Purple Knights in both goals and assists (9 & 4 respectively) when they played Chatham College in December. She got her 11th goal of the season against Southern Maine in a loss. Desiree led her team with 13 goals and six assists in her last year on the ice.
Meanwhile for the boys, sophomore Brady Earle ’08 also led the Knights in goals at the time of their game with Morrisville. Brady scored the first goal and got an assist in the game against Pace University. Brady leads the Knights with 11 goals for the season and got his tenth assist in the game against Connecticut College.
Senior forward Sean McKevitt ’06 got the second goal for Utica College in the tie game with Castleton State in December. He continued his winning ways with an assist on the game-winning goal against Cortland. He also got the third goal (and his third) in the game against Curry. Sean finished his season as assistant captain with five goals and six assists. He also earned a spot on the ECAC Men’s West Hockey All-Academic team.
Megan Murphy ’09 is playing varsity hockey for the Pioneer women of Sacred Heart University.
Junior forward Adam Houli ’07 is Trinity’s leading scorer and knocked in the game-winning goal against Skidmore on New Year’s Day. He continued with an assist on the goal which tied the game against Middlebury. He knocked in his 15th team-leading goal in the 3-1 win over the University of New England in February. Adam paced his Trinity Bantams to a NESCAC semifinal, losing to Middlebury. He led in scoring for the second year with 26 points (7th in NESCAC) on 16 goals and ten assists. He was named to the ALL-NESCAC First Team. He was also named to the Jewish Sports Review’s All-America Team.
Freshman defender, Jamie Kruczek ’09 played in nine out of ten of the starting games of the Cortland Red Dragons.
Junior forward Kevin Sullivan ’07 got an assist on Salve Regina’s first goal against the University of Southern Maine in a disappointing loss.
Junior forward Kellie Davies ’07 is playing for the Quinnipiac Bobcats. She scored the only goal in the first ever program win for the team against 5th ranked Harvard. In the tie game against fourth-ranked Clarkson, Kelley got her fifth assist of the season in the only goal.
Senior wing, Kathryn O’Connor ‘06 is playing for the successful Holy Cross Crusaders. She got the second goal in the Crusaders’ ECAC loss to St. Anselm. Kathryn got an unassisted goal in the Crusaders win over St. Michael’s Purple Knights and fellow Gunnery alum Desiree Biron ’06 who scored her twelfth season goal during that game.
Tara Connolly ’09 was the starting goal tender in the Bowdoin Polar Bears’ game against Lake Forest. She notched her first college victory and shutout in the 15-0 win against Plymouth State University. Tara played in three games this season with a 1-1 record. She had 31 saves on 38 shots for a .816 record.
LACROSSE
Nick West ’07 playing for Hampton Sydney and Seth Mahler ‘06 playing for Whittier College met up at the Farmville, VA game. Look for the photo in the fall Bulletin.
Junior defenseman Nick West ’07 scooped one ground ball for the Hampden- Sydney team in a loss to Gettysburg in early March. By May, Nick was contributing to Hamden Sydney’s berth in the Division III semi finals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Sarah Macary ’07 junior goaltender for Babson College started the season with two wins in early March and, in a big Division III game against Endicott, sent the game into overtime when she made a stone save, but the Babson Beavers lost 17-16. Sarah made 11 saves in the loss. She made 15 saves in Babson’s upset over 12th ranked Bates later in the month. Sarah finished her season earning the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) All-New England Berkshire Region Second Team honors. Sarah had 13 saves in an 8-6 win in the first round over Williams College in the NCAA Division III tournament. Babson also won its 4th straight NEWMAC title.
Tara Connolly ’09, first year goalie, had 11 saves for the Bowdoin College Polar Bears in their game against Trinity.
Junior defenseman Mike O’Brien ’07 scooped up two ground balls and caused two turnovers, but it wasn’t enough against the Quinnipiac goalie Kevin Benzing in the Hobart loss 7-9. In the game against Ohio State, Mike picked up one ground ball for the Statesmen in the loss.

One of the eight members from William Smith’s lacrosse team, who were elected to the Liberty League’s all-academic lacrosse team was junior Kara Grogan ’07.
TENNIS
Daniel Young ’09 went 13-4 as a singles player for the season for the Nichols College Bisons. That record and his record at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament earned him an honorable mention status for all-TCCC.
OLDER NEWS
Austin Smith ’07 is leading the Colgate hockey team, which boasts a 7-5-4 record, with 20 points, off 8 goals and 12 assists in 16 games.
Brown University sophomore Jeff Buvinow ’08 scored the fifth goal for the Bears in a 6-1 exhibition win over the Ontarion Institute of Technology.
Field hockey goalie, Lindsay Orszulak ’08 earned Western New England College Female of the Week in September with a remarkable 84.2 save percentage for the Golden Bears.
Roger Williams senior Steve Leonetti ’06 finished 64th at the Bryant University Cross Country Invitational.
Muhlenberg senior cornerback Cameron Ahouse ’06 and defensive end Ewan Wright ’06 were stalwarts on the team this season. Ewan made four tackles for the Mules in the final season football game against Moravia and Cameron had an interception and a tackle.
Babson junior soccer goalkeeper Sarah Macary ’07 had a .847 save percentage and seven shutouts last year.
Senior midfielder for the Saints Katrina Knickerbocker ’06 started in all 14 lacrosse games at St. Lawrence last spring.
Eric Leider ’09 is making news in men’s’ basketball at Occidental College. He was instrumental in the Tigers’ win over the Holy Names University Hawks earning 19 points.
A rower in the Novice Eight at University of Virginia, Chelsea Simpson ’08 helped her team win the South/Central Regional Championship and the ACC Championship in the 2008-2009 year.
Larry Gregorek ’07 and Nick Bianchi ’07 sophomore made news for their football team, the Hobart Statesmen.
Desiree Biron ’06 was the senior field hockey forward at St. Michael’s College.
As a freshman on the University of New Hampshire Football team Derek Coppola ‘09’s job was to simulate the opponent’s offense for Saturday’s games.
Shane Murphy ’05 was honored as the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year at Franklin Pierce playing on both the ice hockey and the baseball teams. The Ravens played in the Division II NCAA tournament in baseball and he was named to the ECAC Northeast All-Academic team in hockey. He graduated with a 3.24 average in criminal justice.
Addison Owens ’09 barely had time to hang up his Gunnery cleats before his great showing in July at the Danbury amateur golf championship at Richter Park golf course. Playing against some contestants three times his age, Addison battled to a second place finish one stroke behind the leader.
Sophomore Brady Earle ’08 got a goal and two assist in the St. Michael’s win over the University of New England in hockey.
Sacred Heart University freshman Megan Murphy ’09 got her first collegiate assist in the ice hockey game against SUNY Potsdam.
