Financial Aid Policy

Thank you for your interest in The Gunnery for the 2011-2012 school year. You may begin to apply for financial aid starting on November 1, 2009, as described below. To be eligible for consideration for financial aid, you must complete your application by February 10, 2011. If this deadline is met, new families are likely to be notified as to whether or not they will receive financial aid for 2011-2012 at the time of acceptance.

We use School and Student Services (SSS) to process our financial aid applications. SSS is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Based on the financial information you provide, SSS gives us an estimated amount that your family can contribute to educational expenses. This helps our school make fair and objective financial aid decisions. To begin your financial aid application for the 2011-2012 enrollment year, follow these steps below.

Applications for financial aid must be completed by both new and returning families every year by February 10. All awards are reviewed annually to insure that high standards of scholarship and citizenship are maintained.

Online

  1. Starting on November 1, 2010, go to sss.nais.org.
  2. Click on the prompt to begin your Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). You only need to complete one PFS even if you have several children applying to schools. Each parent household must complete one PFS.
  3. You will be given a username and password that will allow you to return to your PFS at a later date before submitting it. Your information will be secure.  Please keep your password in a safe palce.  You will need it again.
  4. You will be given instructions about submitting backup documents. (Please note that you must print a cover sheet off the SSS website after you complete your PFS.  Enclose this with any paperwork that you mail to SSS.)  At The Gunnery we require that you submit the following documents to SSS directly:
    • IRS Form 1040 for 2010
    • All IRS Schedules for 2010
    • W2 and/or 1099 forms for 2010

Note: If you apply for financial aid online, your information will be delivered accurately and quickly to our school, allowing us to make a quicker decision about your eligibility for financial aid.

By Mail

  1. If you don’t already have a printed Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), call our school at 860-868-7334 and we would be happy to mail you one.
  2. Complete the PFS and return it (along with supporting tax documents – see #4 above for list) to School and Student Services by NAIS, Application Processing Center, P.O. Box 449, Randolph, MA 02368-0449 USA.

We recognize that preparing both IRS and SSS documents by February 10 is challenging. Our financial aid budget is limited, however, and those who meet the deadline have a distinct advantage. Your timely application means we can give your daughter or son the consideration she or he deserves.

Please feel free to direct any questions or special circumstances to Jarrod Sisk, Director of Financial Aid, at 860-868-7334 ext. 274 or siskj@gunnery.org.
